Sondra Sue Smart, 77, passed away peacefully, in Bentonville, Ark., on May 24, 2017. She was born December 28, 1939, to Henry and Ileene Jenkins Garvey, in Emporia, Kan.
Sondra grew up in Trinidad, Colo., and the love for the Colorado mountains never left her. She retired as a registered nurse after 40 years. She enjoyed crocheting and visiting with friends over a hot cup of coffee. She was a devoted and compassionate mother. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a resident of Webb City, Mo.
Sondra was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Virginia Garvey; and one son, Joseph Smart.
Survivors include her former husband, Gary Smart, of Joplin, Mo.; three sons, Mike Smart and wife, Brenda, of Avoca, Ark., Steve Smart and wife, Laura, of Joplin, John Smart, of Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Gary Garvey, of Webb City, and Marty Garvey, of Edmond, Okla.; three grandchildren, Josh, Cate, and Gabe Smart. Seven step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Family to Sondra was defined by love and not limited to relation.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 3, at Mount Hope Cemetery, in Webb City, starting at 2 p.m.
