William "Bruce" Rhodes, 68, passed away August 20, 2017 at the Missouri Veterans Home, in Mt. Vernon, Mo., after a 6-year battle with Alzheimer's.
Bruce was born March 11, 1949, to William "Bill" Rhodes and Mildred Woodward Rhodes, in Trenton, Mo. They both preceded him in death.
In March 1968, he married Joyce Wicks Rhodes. She survives at their home, in Springfield, Mo.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Tammy McCarter and husband, Brad; two granddaughters, Courtney McCarter-Carter and husband, Jared, Kinsey McCarter-Batten and husband ,Tyler; and one great-granddaughter, Scarlett Carter, all of Springfield. Also, surviving are two sisters, Sandra Tiedemann, of Smyrna, Ga., Meridith Gann and husband, Jim, of Pineville, Mo.; and one brother, Daryl Rhodes and wife, Pam, of Carthage, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bruce graduated from the University of Missouri Rolla as a civil engineer. He worked for Rhodes/Sayre Engineering, in Brookfield, Mo., City of Joplin, Joplin, Mo., and Anderson Engineering, in Joplin and Springfield. He retired in 2008. He enjoyed camping, fishing, canoeing, boating, motorcycle trips and spending time with his family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hope Church Building Fund, 2121 South Blackman Road, Springfield, MO 65809, or in care of the funeral home.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 24, from 10-11 a.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, located at 1947 East Seminole, Springfield. Service will follow in the funeral home with Pastor Gary Hay officiating. Private family burial will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
