Barbara Jean Armstrong, 79, of Webb City,

Mo., died at 1:10 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in the Medicalodge, in Girard, Kan.

Barbara was born July 6, 1937, in Minatare, Neb., a daughter of Henry and Lillian (Schwartz) Knaub. She grew up and attended schools in Nebraska and graduated from Scottsbluff (Neb.) High School in 1955. Barbara served in the US Marines from August 21, 1959 until November 2, 1960.

She married B. W. Armstrong on October 18, 1960, at Parris Island, S.C. He preceded her in death on November 11, 2015.

They lived in various cities including Parris Island, Knoxville, Tenn., Scotts Bluff, Camp Pendleton, Calif., Barstow, Calif., Pueblo, Colo., Gillette, Wyo., Sheridan, Wyo., Atlanta, Ga., Albany, Ga., Oklahoma City, Okla., and Joplin, Mo. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, in Joplin, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Barbara enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren; arts and crafts, ladies groups at church, and Facebooking with her family and friends.

Survivors are a daughter, Lorrie Cerny and her husband, Larry, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; her son, Robert Armstrong and his wife, Cindy, of Girard; six grandchildren; her brother, Jack Knaub, of Omaha, Neb.; her sisters, Patricia Eskam of Scottsbluff, and Geraldine Yarkosky, of Olathe, Kan.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great-niece. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 27, at the Peace Lutheran Church, 3100 North St. Louis Avenue, Joplin, with military honors given by the United States Marine Corps and the American Legion. Burial will be at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery, in Scottsbluff.
