Carthage, MO - Susie (Houk) McDowell, 64, of Carthage, Missouri, passed peacefully in her sleep on May 1, 2026. She was born April 27, 1962, in Seneca, Missouri to Jimmie and Charlene (Kettner) Houk.
Susie and Claude McDowell married on March 2, 1997, eloping in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, after a two‑week courtship. A talented homemaker, Susie, loved her flowers, fishing, and above all, her family.
She is survived by her husband, Claude McDowell; children Christopher McDowell, Justin Scott, Donny McDowell, Leann Kmick (Aaron), Stephanie McDowell, and Sara Eimer; 23 grandchildren; one great‑grandchild; her sister Sandy Houk; and her stepmother Marina Houk. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Houk and Charlene Kettner; siblings Marie Allen and Jimmie Houk Jr.; and one grandchild, Mikayla Scott.
Visitation will be held May 6, 2026, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Mason Woodard Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri. Funeral services will be held May 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mason Woodard Mortuary, with burial to follow at Stone's Cemetery.
