Charles "Charlie" A. Compton, age 92, of Joplin, MO, passed away on January 2nd, 2024 at 1:18am at St.Luke's nursing home, after an extended illness.

Born February 22nd, 1932 in Joplin, MO, he was the son of Emory and Ovola (Burgess) Compton.

He graduated from Neosho High School and then promptly attended Joplin Junior College. After his education was completed, he joined the Navy and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge.

He has lived in the rural Joplin and Saginaw area for most of his life. He married his loving wife, Patricia Narrell on November 20th, 1953 in Honolulu, HI. They were married 65 years until her death in 2018. They had two children together, Celia Whitehead and Mark Compton. Mark also preceded him in death in 2015.

Charlie was the owner of Southwest Agency in Carthage, MO from 1967 until its sale in 2001. He loved his family, spending time at the lake house, going on annual fishing trips to Canada with his friends, working on his farm, and supporting local Democratic politics.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and son, Mark Compton.

Survivors include his daughter, Celia Whitehead; grandchildren, Amy Keifert, Lindsey Smith (Tyler), Matthew Compton, and Nathan Compton; great grandchildren, Julien and William

Kiefert, Crosby Smith, and Kaelee Compton.

Services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, January 9th at Mason-Woodard Mortuary with a visitation prior to the service at 1:00pm. Burial will be held directly after the service at Saginaw Cemetery.
