Oklahoma City, Ok - DORIS JEAN GUINN
Doris Jean Guinn, born May 1st, 1931 in Carl Junction, Mo. passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec 16, 2025.
Doris grew up in a loving extended family and spent most of her life in Joplin, Mo. While life was hard in the depression years of the 1930s, she found passion in her family, school, friends and faith. She was the oldest of her siblings, William Highley and Jack Highley.
A bit impulsive in her youth she met her husband, William Harry Guinn and on their first date they married later that night. Married to a fireman was an adventure as the hours were abnormal. But the adventure would carry her all over the country eventually for events and gatherings.
Early in her life she began working in a shirt factory but after marriage, worked for Sears in the credit department for decades before retiring.
Totally devoted to her family, Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Holidays were always a special time and she loved gathering the extended family, spending time in the kitchen and preparing favorite dishes for loved ones. Christmas time was always a week of baking cookies and making candy to share with everyone.
Doris was very active in her faith and devoted to her church family. A major fundraiser for the church was made possible by making apple pies to sell for the church. They would make as many as 1400 pies during the holidays that were highly prized by all. She made sure her children were active at church as well and raised in the word of our Lord. She helped raise funds for mission trips and sewed costumes for Church Christmas plays.
Doris will be remembered for her warmth, kindness and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and treasured memories.
She is survived by her brother, Jack Highley, sister in laws, Janna Eikel, Martha K. Wade and brother in law, Don Mitchell and wife Linda. Her children, William Harry "Nick" Guinn Jr. and wife Mitzi, John Robert Guinn and his wife Kandy Jo. Grandchildren, Amanda, Alicia and husband Erich, Jessica, Eric and wife Akiko, Ethan and wife Kendra, Ashlan and Moriah. Great grandchildren, Haley, Megumi, Emma, William, Kali, Colt, Spencer, Azure and Tristan.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, William Harry Guinn, her brother William "Bill" Highley.
