Gary Wayne Scott Obituary
Riverton, KS - Gary Wayne Scott, beloved son of Skip Scott and Betty Scott, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, at the age of 81.
Gary was raised on a dairy farm in Kansas, where he developed a love for the land and hunting. It also resulted in a serious dislike for fishing despite growing up near Shoal Creek and the Spring River. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, discipline, and perseverance—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.
He attended Lowell Elementary School and graduated from Riverton High School. He went on to pursue higher education at Pittsburgh State University, earning both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Engineering. He used this education to travel the world supporting an international machine sales corporation, building a career defined by skill and dedication. Gary was also the proud owner of multiple machine shops over the years. After retiring, he spent several years indulging his inherited "green thumb" taking care of the family farm in Galena, KS.
An avid sports fan, Gary played football for the Riverton Rams during his high school years and proudly declared that he would "always be a Riverton Ram." He remained a loyal follower of college football and was especially fond of KU basketball.
A man of few words, Gary found his greatest joy in time spent with his family. He treasured holidays with his daughters, Shannon and Amy, and took great pride in watching his son, Forrest, grow into a skilled tradesman.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Richard "Skip" Scott; his mother, Betty Lou Scott (Swain), his beloved daughter, Shannon Lee Scott Foster and his brother-in-law Don Ulrey.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Michelle Gallaher (Scott) and son-in-law, Gene D. Gallaher; his son, Forrest Scott, his sister, Cathy Lou Thomas (Scott), and brother-in-law, Larry Thomas; his sister, Sharon Ulrey (Scott); his grandson, David Michael Gallaher; his granddaughter, Taylor Lee Foster; as well as many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins. He had many wonderful friends to whom he cherished as well.
Gary's legacy of integrity, resilience, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
May he rest in eternal peace, and may God's light shine upon him and his family always.
