Jean Guinn
Eugenia Rae Guinn, 84, passed peacefully from this life at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Joplin Gardens.
Jean was born May 21, 1935, in Wentworth, MO, to Mrs. Myrne (Loving) Harding and spent most of her youth in Ritchey before living out the rest of her years in Joplin.
Jean was an active member of First Community Church, participated in Bible Study Friends, and devoted many years to volunteerism in the Joplin area following her retirement from Wardrobe Cleaners. She spent much of her time at Crosslines Ministries, Mission Joplin, and giving out coloring pages and activity books to pediatric patients at the 32nd Street Surgery Center, as well as the former St. John's Regional Medical Center.
She married Darrell Lee Guinn on May 22, 1954, in Joplin, by Rev. Thurman Kelly. Darrell preceded her in death.
Surviving is a daughter, Debra Pendergraft, of Arlington, TX; a son, Terry Guinn and his wife, Mary, of Joplin; a brother, William Hardy, of Willard, MO; five grandchildren, Brian Jones, Julie Barron, Morgan Pendergraft, Laura Guinn and Sarah Guinn Westenkirchner; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Jean loved the sunshine, sweet tea, traveling much of the United States with her husband, taking lots of pictures and stirring up conversation with anyone nearby. An aggressive cancer was the only force that could match her strong will to live.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, at the First Community Church, with Rev. Russell Willoughby officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin.
