John  Martin
John Edward Martin, age 88, passed to his eternal home on March 16th, at Mercy Hospital at 2:30 p.m. after a recent illness.
John was born November 7, 1931, in Joplin, MO, to Ernest and Naomi Martin, the eldest of 10 siblings. He attended Joplin schools.
Mr. Martin served his country proudly in the United States Air Force in the 1950s and was once stationed in Topeka, KS.
John married Arla McGinnis in April 1952. They came back to Joplin in 1955, where he started a 33-year career at Lewis Motor Supply.
Through Mr. Martin's life he enjoyed many homes and boats on Grand Lake. He owned cattle, sheep and horses on his farms.
John gave his heart to Jesus and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Naomi Martin; is wife, Arla Martin; a son, John Craig Martin; a brother, Donald Martin; a brother-in-law, Elmer "Pudge" Copeland; and grandson, John Thomas Martin.
John married Verna Martin on April 22, 2004. They had many loving, happy years and trips together.
John is survived by wife, Verna Martin; son, Kevin Thomas Martin and wife, Melissa; stepchildren, Paul, Lonnie, a very special daughter, Verneen, Tim and Tammy. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; his sister, Lorraine Copeland; brother, Lloyd Martin and wife, Sandra; brother, Leonard Martin and wife, Evelyn; sister, Louise Carden and husband, Don; sister, Joyce Newman and husband, Cal; brother, Larry Martin; sister, Nancy Martin; sister, Debra Amos and husband, Terry; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John will be sorely missed by all his family, countless friends and associates.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Verna Martin to help with expenses.
As per Mr. Martin's wishes, he has been cremated. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park Crematory, Joplin.

Sending my deepest sympathy and comforting wishes to the Martin Family. I know he will be sorely missed. I remember his sense of humor when I was a teenager. He always made me laugh.
