John Elwood Stevens

John Elwood Stevens, 81, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, following complications from Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). He was born on July 7, 1942, in Joplin, Missouri, to Elwood and Elsie (Gray) Stevens.
John was united in marriage to Sharon Webb on June 1, 1962. They enjoyed a wonderful 61 years together raising their family and traveling the world.
John retired from Leggett and Platt in 2002. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed many years of his retirement at their house on Table Rock Lake.
He is survived by his wife Sharon; daughter Lisa Davis and husband Barry of Willard; son-in-law, Robert Johnson of Miller; grandchildren Meghan Dugas and husband Jacob of Iowa, Louisiana, Nolan Johnson of Miller, and Turner Davis of Willard; one great-granddaughter Charlotte Dugas of Iowa, Louisiana; two siblings Tom Stevens and Carol "Stevens" Norris; one nephew; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Dia Stevens Johnson and his parents Elwood and Elsie Stevens.
John was a member of Abou Ben Adhem Train Crew of Carthage, Missouri. He loved throwing candy to the kids during the parades.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
Per Johns' request, a celebration of life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Shrine Train Barn located at 2130 W. Mound St., Carthage, Missouri. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers Melinda and Melanie and to Cornerstone Home Health and Good Shephard Hospice.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

January - May

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

June - December

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
