Joplin, MO - Lettie Louise McMillan, 99, of Joplin, passed away on October 9, 2025, after an extended illness.
Born September 20, 1926, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Edward Christmas and Audrey "Virgie" Stinnett, Lettie was a woman of great faith and a devoted member of the Church of God in Christ in Joplin. She was raised by her grandparents after the early loss of her mother and carried their love and wisdom throughout her life.
In 1948, she married Rev. Macon McMillan, Sr., and together they raised five children. Known for her quiet strength and deep devotion to family and faith, Lettie was a beloved caregiver and affectionately known as "Granny" by many across the world. She was also esteemed as one of Joplin's oldest Black residents and a keeper of East Town's history.
Lettie was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Macon McMillan, Sr.; her brothers, James F. Harlow and Dr. Lloyd Harlow; grandson, Dwayne McMillan; and infant sister, Floretta Marie.
Survivors include her children: Macon McMillan, Jr. (Wichita, KS), Marvin, Judi, Janet, and Joyce McMillan (all of Joplin); grandchildren—Michael, Taya, and Angelique McMillan, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends.
