Joplin, MO - Linda Ann Cannon was born November 27, 1957 on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California to Barbara (Reynolds) Cannon and Frank Cannon. She lived in Burbank, California until moving to the four-states in 1967, briefly attending school in Seneca until moving to Pittsburg, Kansas. There, she and her brother Dwight attended Lakeside school for several years. After a brief sojourn in Bethany, Oklahoma, she and her mother relocated to a farm outside Racine, rejoined later by Dwight, and she completed high school in Seneca, graduating in 1975.
Linda then attended MSSC as a theater major for two years, including the final year of the Barn Theater and the first year of the Taylor Performing Arts Center. She later finished a degree in Literature at Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey so that she could apply to graduate school to become a librarian.
After doing temp work for several years, Linda was hired at Joplin Public Library in 1988 as a part-time circulation clerk. After the first year, she was promoted to full-time and later to the position of Circulation Supervisor. After a few years, she began completing her bachelor's degree so that she could get her Master's degree at OU which she obtained in 1996. Linda became the first IT Manager at JPL, along with continuing her Circulation duties and education, while also adding Acquisitions and Collection Development to her hats. Over the next several years, she gradually passed over the IT job to another staff member as the computing systems grew from the original server for the library system installed in 1991 and a few staff and public PCs to the many computers needed for a modern library.
After some health issues slowed her down, Linda passed on the Circulation Department duties and library integrated system responsibilities and went half-time as strictly Collection Development/Acquisition Librarian. She maintained that position until her death On November 1, 2025.
Linda enjoyed trivia, reading, television and movies, cooking, and her furry friends, leaving behind four cats.
Linda is survived by her brother, Dwight (Amy) of Hanover Park, Illinois and two nieces, Katie and Kelly Cannon, and one nephew, Christopher Cannon, and three great-nephews, Elija Pederson, Ezra Cannon, and Kyler Poppleton.
