Joplin, Missouri - Lovingly written by the family
Loraine Darlene "Pat" Comfort, lovingly known as "Grandma PickleButt" and "Mamaw", passed away peacefully, on January 10th. Pat was born at home in Joplin, Missouri, on December 22, 1932, to Ed and Lula Miller.
A homemaker, nurses aide, caretaker, and taxi driver for her beloved family, Pat dedicated her life to nurturing others. Like so many during her time, her family moved to California in her early years in search of better opportunities. By her teenage years, Pat returned to Joplin, the city that would remain her home for most of her life, though she did look back fondly on 8 months in Germany, and a season in Bisbee, Arizona.
In her later years, she found joy in playing Bingo at the VFW in Webb City and Joplin, dancing at the Hootenanny, playing cards, and sharing laughs during her weekly lunches at the Senior Center in Webb City and Joplin Cafe.
Above all, Pat was devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Comfort, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, her son, James Hurtt, her daughter, Lanita Hayden, and 2 grandsons, Donald Jr., Hayden and Corey VanWey.
She is survived by 4 nieces, one nephew, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom she loved deeply and with whom she created countless memories.
Friends and family are cordially invited to gather for visitation at Parker Mortuary in Joplin on Wednesday, January 15th from 5-7 pm. Services will be held at 1 pm, on Thursday January 16th at Parker. Graveside to follow at Ozark Memorial Cemetery. Flowers may be directed to Parker.
