Loretta Carpenter
Loretta May (Coleman) Carpenter, age 79, of Joplin, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, from complications of Parkinson's disease.
Loretta was born in Carthage, MO, on November 1, 1940, to the late J.D. and Mildred (Ayers) Coleman. She graduated from Webb City High School in 1959.
Loretta's favorite job in life was creating a warm and loving home for her family. But for 18 years she assisted her husband in operation of their business, Jay's Auto Repair. She enjoyed playing the piano, creating decorative crafts, making quilts and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was a Christian and had a very strong faith. Her sweet spirit endeared her to so many.
Loretta married her soulmate, J.C. Carpenter, on May 19, 1959. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage before Jay's passing on December 22, 2017.
Loretta was also preceded in death by three much loved brothers, Larry, Carl, and Robert Coleman.
Survivors include her beloved children, Marty Carpenter, Miami, OK, Lori Musser (Kevin), of Joplin, Missy Hext, of Diamond, and Jody Carpenter, of Joplin; adored grandchildren, Jake Musser (Claudia), Korey Scribner (Brooke), Jessie Davis (Trever), Kaci Scribner, and Emmy Carpenter (Jared Smith); treasured great-grandchildren, Tinley, Alex, Natalie, Sunnie, Tucker and Khloe; one cherished brother, Henry Coleman, and sister-in-law, Patty, of Webb City; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special friends, Judy Fair, Beverly Dunlap, and Carol Scribner.
Loretta's family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Avalon Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion.
A time of visitation has been scheduled for 6-7 p.m., Friday March 20, at Mason-Woodard for friends. We will have to limit the amount of people that can be inside the building at any given time, but will try to accommodate as many as we can.

I am so sorry for your loss. As a nurse, we meet and care for a multitude of people. There are some that touch our hearts more overwhelmingly than others, and Lorretta was one of those to me. She had such a sweet spirit and soul. I will never forget her loving smile and determination. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Also, I will never forget Lori and Missy. Your devotion was unremarkable. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. May God Bless and wrap his arms around you.
Glenda, former nurse at Spring River Christian Village who was blessed to have known and cared for such a beautiful woman.
