Marilyn Joyce Simpson

Marilyn Joyce Simpson, 87, of Carl Junction, MO, passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2025. Born on February 28, 1938, in Silsbee, Texas, Marilyn lived a life rooted in love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family.
She grew up in Colmesneil, Texas, where she fondly remembered her days as a baton twirler. A gifted student, Marilyn graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class in 1955 and was honored to be named that year's Dogwood Queen. Her passion for music and leadership led her to Baylor University, where she proudly served as drum majorette.
In 1957, while at Baylor, she met the love of her life, Ronnie Cline Simpson. The two were married on May 23, 1958, in a double wedding ceremony shared with Marilyn's brother, Jimmie Donald.
Marilyn and Ronnie went on to raise four children: Tim Simpson of Omaha, NE; Jana (Cliff) Bennett of Omaha, NE; Nancy (Anthony) Williams of Omaha, NE; and Sarah (Trent) Carrender of Springdale, AR.
In 1969, the family made Joplin, MO their home, where Marilyn worked as a substitute teacher and built lasting friendships over the next 56 years.
In 1972, Marilyn began a deep study of the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. After 12 years of sincere and thoughtful study, she was baptized on December 10, 1983. Her faith became a source of strength and joy, and she found deep meaning in sharing it with others. Marilyn held firmly to the Bible's promise of a resurrection to a paradise earth—a hope that brings comfort to those who long to see her again.
Marilyn was admired for her keen organizational skills, timeless elegance, and quiet determination. She had a creative eye for photography, found joy in cooking and keeping a tidy home, and especially loved music and dancing—a passion that remained strong even as her memory began to fade.
She leaves behind a rich legacy in her 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, Ronnie Cline Simpson; her parents, Jimmie Clyde and Macel Freeman; and her brother, Jimmie Donald Freeman. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her brother, Kenneth Clyde "Cooter" Freeman of Colmesneil, Texas.
Marilyn's memory will be deeply treasured by all who knew and loved her.
