Mary Alice Ballard
Mary Alice Ballard, beloved matriarch of a large and varied family, passed from this earth January 2nd, 2018.
Born April 7th, 1926, in England, Ark., she carried with her throughout life the spirit of survival learned in her youth. She was ever resourceful, even in the roughest of times, and seemed to have a bounty to share with anyone in need. Mary was a truly righteous person, generous, compassionate, and loving. Yet, she was also painfully truthful, slightly judgmental, and had no problem calling out absurdity when she saw it, and we all loved her for it.
Mary was many things throughout her 91 years; nurse, seamstress, riverboat cook, but most of all, Mother. Starting with her little brothers, all the way to her great-grandsons, if there was a child to be raised, she was there. She taught us all right from wrong, and even into adulthood, us "kids" make many decisions in life based on "What would Gramma think?".
Mary touched so many people in her life and is survived by too much family to name. We all knew we'd be okay because there was a little old lady praying for us, and God hears their prayers first. Now that she's gone, let's hope she's still praying for us, because we don't quite know how we're going to get along with her.
Per Mary's wishes, she was cremated and no services are planned. She always said, "If anyone wants to see me, they better do it before I'm dead."
