Melvin Leroy Henderson, 78, of Ft. Myers, Florida, (formerly of Monett), was called home to Heaven on Monday July 19, 2021. He was born on December 1, 1942, the son of the late Herbert and Virginia (Jenkins) Henderson. He was united in marriage in Monett, Missouri, on December 6, 1992, to Carol Elder; she survives.
He graduated in 1960 from Monett High School and received his associate's degree from Missouri Southern State University. He was employed at The Joplin Globe for 32 years where he was a Computer Systems Manager. Mel was a long-time member of Christ's Community United Methodist Church of Joplin and was a board member of Habitat for Humanity in Joplin for six years and treasurer for three years. He lived in Florida for the past 10 years.
Mel is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; brother, Steven (Marilyn) Henderson, of Wentworth, Missouri; two step-sons, Dr. Park Triplett, of Carl Junction and Dr. Matt Triplett, of Sedalia; one step-daughter, Stacy Beach, of Seminole, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren: Noah, Seth, Levi, Hannah, Aurora and Jack Triplett and Andrew and Aaron Beach; and one great-grandson, Bryer Beach.
Visitation for Mel is being held on Saturday July 31, 2021, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri. Memorial services will immediately follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Chuck Kralik officiating.
