Shirley June Mitchell was born March 6, 1933, in Round Prairie, MO, and entered eternal rest July 29, 2022, at her daughters home surrounded by her family.
Shirley married Don Mitchell January 20, 1951. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2016. It was love at first sight for him as she got on the school bus. She left Missouri and moved to Texas in her junior year of high school. Meanwhile, Don built a home for them in Spring City before going to Texas to get his bride as they started their lives together. They were happily married for 65 years. They both set a wonderful example of a loving Christian marriage for all their family and the community.
She was also preceded in death by her parents Gladys and Earl Melton, son Clint Mitchell, son-in-law Steve Ball, and brothers Don, Bob, and Max Melton.
She is survived by her two daughters Donna Whitehead and Clinton and Susan Ball, four grandchildren Angela Nesvold and Rob, Stephanie Sinclair and Ray, Jared Whitehead and Sheila, Stacey Curtis and Mike, 17 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, one brother Roger Melton and Vicki, sisters-in-law Pat Melton and Shirley Melton, and a host of family and friends.
Shirley "Grammy" loved to go on trips searching for antiques and auctions with Don. She collected dolls and she also loved to quilt and sew. She was active in her church teaching Sunday school and helping with children's activities. She loved gardening and was a master gardener and jigsaw puzzle enthusiast. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
