Steven E. Henderson, 78, of Wentworth, Missouri, passed away following a brief illness on November 19, 2024 at St. Luke's in Carthage, Missouri.

He was born on May 3, 1946 in Monett, Missouri, to Herbert and Virginia (Jenkins) Henderson. He attended Monett Schools and was a graduate with the class of 1964. Steven attended SMSU (Missouri State) and pledged Sigma Pi Fraternity. He received his Bachelors of Science in Education in early 1969. In March 1969; Steven began his 30 plus year career with the Missouri Division of Family Services in the Barton (Lamar) County office. He transferred to the Newton (Neosho) County office in May 1971 and then to the Jasper (Joplin) County office in September 1976. He retired from the Joplin office in October of 1999.

Steven married Marilyn Hailey on November 29, 1975 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Sarcoxie, Missouri; the day was blessed with a rainbow and it was his paternal grandparent's anniversary. He was a MSSU Lionbacker and enjoyed attending football and basketball games both home and as far away as Louisville, Kentucky.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, brother Melvin and grandparents Urey and Myrtle Jenkins and Troy and Pauline Henderson.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn of the home; cousins: Lynda Lewis, Gary Davis, Mark Coatney, Bill Coatney, Marcee Massey, Joni Clayton, Lace Coatney, Kaye Bunn, Jill Ostertag, Jan Horn, and Lori Timbrook.

Visitation for Steven is being held on Monday November 25, 2024 from 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m. at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation on Monday November 25, 2024 at 2:00p.m. at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri. Burial will follow services at the St. Agnes Cemetery in Sarcoxie, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Bethel UMC Carthage in Carthage, Missouri.
