Virginia June Wilcox

Born: June 18th 1926

Died: December 17th 2019

Virginia "June" Wilcox was born in Columbus Kansas, to Floyd F. Tarr and Hallie M. Jarvis Tarr on 6-18-1926.

She graduated from CCCHS in 1944. She married William R Atkinson in 1945, and had four children. This union ended in divorce. In 1962, she married Lawrence Wilcox.

June is Past President of the Columbus BPW and held other offices in the club. She worked in the Cherokee County Abstract office for 22 years. Before moving to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, in 2007 she worked part-time in the Cherokee County Health Department.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus and acted as the church secretary at one time. After moving to Broken Arrow, she joined Arrow Heights Baptist Church where she was an active member and sang in the senior choir.

She is survived by three children, Valerie Gawthrop, Broken Arrow, Stanley Atkinson, Joplin and Bradley Atkinson, Broken Arrow; her grandchildren, Mike Atkinson, Jenni Barnes, April Willis and Eric Atkinson. She also has nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Hallie Tarr; her husband, Lawrence Wilcox; her son, Gregory L. Atkinson; sisters, Martha Headley and Maxine Cook; and her brother, James Tarr.

She was loved by many and will be missed.

Services will be at Derfelt Funeral Home in Columbus, Kansas, on Saturday, December 21, at 11:00 a.m., Jim Bowles will officiate. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery.
